Module 1 Overview:
In Module 1, you will be introduced to the field of biostatistics. You will learn that through analysis we can improve the intellectual content of data, organize that data into an understandable formats, and assess the reliability and validity of that data. Data can be organized into three primary measurement scales: categorical, ordinal, and quantitative. Data are generated using survey or via comparative studies which may be experimental or non-experimental in nature. Each of these methods uses various sampling techniques in an attempt to best approximate the population of interest. Data can be organized into frequency distributions and then provide a visual display of that data using stemplots, histograms, and frequency tables. Finally, you will learn about the importance of summary statistics as a further way to describe data.
